One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, on the western bank of the Ganga.
Kashi Vishwanath is the most revered Shiva temple in Varanasi and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. The present temple was rebuilt by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar in 1780, and its spire was later gilded with gold gifted by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor now connects the sanctum directly to the Ganga ghats.
Darshan guide
- Best time to visit
- Pre-dawn Mangala Aarti (3–4 AM) or before 7 AM for the shortest queue. Mondays and the Shravan month are the busiest.
- Typical darshan
- 30–90 min (more on Mondays & festivals)
- Dress code
- Modest dress. Phones, cameras and leather are not allowed inside — use the free locker facility.
- Entry & queue
- Free darshan via the general line; a paid Sugam Darshan ticket skips most of the queue. Carry a photo ID.
- Deposit phones, leather & bags at the free lockers before queueing.
- Mangala Aarti needs advance booking — reserve online.
- The Vishwanath Corridor links directly to Lalita & Manikarnika Ghats.
